The Chinese government will slash seven shipping-related charges beginning 1 October.
The Ministry of Finance and National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) on 24 August announced that the seven are: port fee, escort fee for special vessels and marine projects, temporary ship registration fee, chimney logo/company flag fee, ship renaming/home port registration change fee, ship nationality certificate fee, and scrapped vessel registration fee.
The move will relieve the burden on shipping enterprises and promote economic development along the Yangtze River, stated the announcement.
In early August the Ministry of Transport and NDRC released a notice prohibiting port operators and pilot organisations from imposing charges for services other than pilotage (shifting), towage, berthing, oil boom, feeders, special trimming, waste disposal, water, bunker, and power supply.
