Cargo traffic at Kobe port in western Japan grew 7.7% in April 2015 from a year earlier to 8.313 million tonnes, as domestic trade posted double-digit growth, according to preliminary figures released by the Kobe municipal government.
Of the 8.313 million tonnes, 4.453 million tonnes came from foreign trade, up 4.5% from a year earlier, and the remaining 3.860 million tonnes came from domestic trade, up 11.7% year on year (y/y).
Kobe’s foreign trade in April remained firm. The port exported 2.096 million tonnes of cargo, up 9.4%, and imported 2.356 million tonnes of cargo, up 0.5%.

Kobe handled 893,425 teu of containers between January and April, up 4.9% from the same four-month period last year. Figures for only April were not available immediately.
Of the 893,425 teu handled in January-April, 697,924 teu came from foreign trade, a 3.7% increase from a year earlier, and the remaining 195,501 teu came from domestic trade, rising 9.3% y/y.
In January-April foreign trade, 369,882 teu were exported, up 3.5% from last year, and 328,043 teu were imported, up 4.0% y/y.
