Cargo traffic at Nagoya port, central Japan, declined 8.6% in April from a year earlier to 16.763 million tonnes as both foreign trade and domestic trade slumped, according to preliminary figures released by the Nagoya Port Authority.
Of the 16.763 million tonnes, 10.988 million tonnes came from foreign trade, down 8.9% from a year earlier, and the remaining 5.774 million tonnes came from domestic trade, down 8.0% year on year (y/y).
In April’s foreign trade, Nagoya exported 4.854 million tonnes of cargo, down 9% from a year earlier, and imported 6.133 million tonnes of cargo, down 8.9% y/y.
The port handled 224,084 teu in foreign trade during April, down 3% from the same month last year. Exports totalled 116,599 teu, down 5.3%, while imports amounted to 107,485 teu, down 0.4%.
Nagoya handled 14,183 teu in domestic trade in April, down 5.1% from a year earlier.
