One worker died while another two were injured during a combustion accident on 19 May at Mingyang Shipbuilding in Jiangsu province, China.
The combustion occurred at around 14:00 h local time that day while electric welders were working in a ship’s cabin, which contained excessive paint. The ship was under maintenance at the yard.
The injured were sent to the hospital and investigation on the cause of the accident is under way.
Mingyang Shipbuilding, located in the ship industrial park of Guannan county in Jiangsu, mainly constructs bulk carriers, chemical ships, product oil tankers, and container ships for exports. The yard has four 46,000-tonne building berths and one 35,000-tonne building berth, capable of building steel ships smaller than 46,000 dwt.
Established in 2007, the yard was listed for sale as a whole in Zhejiang Property and Stock Exchange in 2010, and was purchased by Bohai Shipbuilding Heavy Industry later.
