THE bicameral Commission on Appointments (CA) has unanimously approved the ad interim appointment of retired Supreme Court associate justice and SRI Advisory Board member, Noel Tijam, as a member of the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) of the Philippines.
Tijam will represent the academe in the JBC, which screens applicants to judiciary posts. He will have a four-year term and is eligible for a one-time renewal if approved by the President.
Under the law, the representative of the academe should be a “professor of law.” In the past, JBC members from the academe were either deans or faculty members of law schools.
