Bangladeshi intelligence agencies have unearthed an Islamist plot to blow up over 100 navy and coastguard bases and oil refineries in the port city of Chittagong, according to a report in Times of India.
An organization called Hilful Fuzul al Islami apparently planned to bomb the area in collaboration with several other banned Islamist groups in retaliation to escalated security measures designed to clampdown on extremist groups.
The organization is not well known, and an anonymous official is reported to have stated that the militant groups’ previous attempts to regroup and forge unity have failed largely because of ideological differences.
