Carnival cruise ship Carnival Spirit has been unable to dock in the Port of Sydney due to severe storms affecting the New South Wales region.
Reports have Sydney Harbour, Port Botany and Port Kembla declared closed from about 08:00 on Tuesday, for a period of up to 48 hours. Operations at the Port of Newcastle were also suspended.

The ship has 4,000 passengers and crew onboard the ship, which was riding out 10-metre waves, the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper reported. The article cited passengers saying that the storm has caused some minor damage, including broken glass.
Rain and winds in excess of 100km/hour have caused widespread damage, including at least three fatalities in what authorities described as ‘the storm of the decade’.
