China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) is inviting offshore shipyards to submit applications to be included in the offshore ‘whitelist’.
The government hopes the whitelist can optimise production capacity of offshore shipyards and boost mergers and reorganisation in the shipbuilding industry, which in turn would enable whitelisted shipyards to enjoy preferential access to bank loans.
Offshore shipyards must submit applications to local ship administrations for initial review before 31 August. Local administrations will review the applications before forwarding them to MIIT.
MIIT white-listed 51 shipyards in September 2014.
