Singapore-headquartered offshore services provider Keppel FELS has won a USD85 million contract to construct a high-specification liftboat for offshore oil and gas company Crystal Heights Holdings (Crystal Heights).
This latest contract is the second liftboat Keppel has been contracted to build within a year.
Keppel will work with Bennet Offshore to design the liftboat, which is expected to provide a higher freeboard for safer operation and feature retractable spud cans that can be flushed to the bottom of the rig’s hull to reduce drag when transiting between locations.
The self-elevating and self-propelled liftboat design is capable of operating at a water depth of up to 60 m.
It will be equipped with a 280-tonne deck crane, enabling it to undertake the maintenance of most shallow water oil and gas fields and wind farms and various drilling operations and well intervention applications, and has an accommodation capacity of 200 people.
The liftboat is scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2017 with provision to operate in China, the Middle East, and the Gulf of Mexico in the construction of offshore platform, accommodation well intervention, as well as in maintenance and installation.
