Cargo traffic in Japan’s Kobe port surged 17.5% in February from a year earlier to 8.229 million tonnes, according to figures released by the Kobe municipal government on 27 May.
Of the 8.229 million tonnes, 4.530 million tonnes came from foreign trade, up 16% from a year earlier, and the remaining 3.699 million tonnes came from domestic trade, up 19.5% year on year (y/y).
In February foreign trade, Kobe exported 1.955 million tonnes of cargo, showing a 5% increase, and imported 2.575 million tonnes of cargo, rising 26% y/y.
Kobe handled 425,004 teu between January and February, up 6.2% from the same two-month period last year. Figures for only February were not available immediately.
Of the 425,004 teu handled in January-February, 333,625 teu came from foreign trade, rising 6.2% from a year earlier, and the remaining 91,379 teu came from domestic trade, up 6.2% y/y.
In foreign trade in January-February, 175,689 teu were exported, growing 3.7% from a year earlier, and 157,936 teu were imported, up 9.1% y/y.
