The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the World Maritime University (WMU) to train and build global maritime capacities.
The MOU was signed by the MPA Academy, the training arm of MPA, on 22 April in conjunction with the 10th Singapore Maritime Week 2015.
The signing marked the first strategic tie-up with a global centre of excellence in maritime education, in line with the academy’s efforts to reposition itself as a centre of excellence in global maritime leadership training.
Meanwhile, the collaboration allows the two training institutes to develop leadership development programmes, as well as holding exchange programmes among faculty members.
Under the agreement, MPA Academy will continue the tradition that began in 2004 of hosting WMU students in Singapore for field study visits as part of the port management specialisation in the WMU Masters Programme.
“We are delighted that MPA Academy is collaborating with WMU to strengthen our academic offerings. At the same time, we will be able to contribute further to WMU’s work in global maritime leadership development. We look forward to both organisations strengthening the many areas of collaboration in training and capacity building,” said Andrew Tan, chief executive of MPA.
