Ningbo-Zhoushan port recorded container throughput of 10.5 million teu for the first half of 2015, an increase of 9% from a year ago, Chinese Ministry of Transport data on 9 July revealed.
Of the 10.5 million teu, 10.2 million was handled by Ningbo port, up 9.3%, while 0.3 million teu was handled by Zhoushan port, 4.3% more than the same period in 2014, stated the ministry.
The port’s cargo throughput totalled 454 million tonnes in the January-June period, up 1.5% from a year ago. Of the 454 million tonnes, Ningbo handled 258 million tonnes, down 2.4%, while Zhoushan handled 196 million tonnes, an 8.2% rise.
Cargo volume for foreign trade in Ningbo-Zhoushan port totalled 214 milion tonnes in the first half of 2015, down 1.4% from a year ago, while June foreign trade stood at 37.2 million tonnes, up 4.1%.

In June Ningbo-Zhoushan port handled 80.3 million tonnes, up 6.8% from a year ago, of which 43.3 million tonnes were handled by Ningbo, down 6.2%, and 37 million tonnes by Zhoushan, an improvement of 27.4%.
The port’s Meishan Container Terminal handled 1.1 million teu for the first half of 2015, a surge of 53.3% from a year ago. The terminal’s throughput is expected to surpass 2.2 million for full-year 2015, according to a source from the port authority.
