NYK has established its first exclusive roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) terminal in Saudi Arabia at King Abdullah port (KAP).
KAP RORO Terminal is a joint-venture initiative between the Japan-headquartered shipping company and Saudi Arabia-based Ports Development Company (PDC).
Scheduled to start full operation by the third quarter of 2016, the terminal will become NYK’s first automotive logistics base in the Middle East.
Through the joint venture with PDC, NYK will use the KAP RORO Terminal as its gate port to handle 60,000 units annually to address the Middle East’s growing market.
In India, NYK started operations this week at a new ro-ro terminal in Pipavav port.
Jointly operated by NYK Auto Logistics (India) and APM Terminals subsidiary Gujarat Pipavav port, the terminal has annual capacity for 250,000 vehicles, according to an NYK press release on 3 September.
