One seafarer was reported missing after cargo ship Jia Ying 6 sank off Yangshan, Shanghai, on the evening of 11 August because of heavy winds, stated local maritime safety administration (MSA).
The China-flagged cargo carrier was en route from Dinghai, Zhejiang province, to Shanghai, with six crew members on board. The ship was sailing west off Yangshan around 21:30 h local time that night before it ran into heavy winds and started to sink.

Five crew members managed to escape on a life boat, which was found next morning, according to the local MSA. Rescue ships were sent to the site and passing vessels were required to assist the search-and-rescue operations.
The rescued five crew members were sent to a hospital where they received medical treatment.
The search for the missing seafarer is still under way, and the investigation into the accident will be conducted later, said the local MSA.
