Three crew members of the Panama-flagged bulk carrier Hiram died after reportedly inhaling poisonous gas off Pengerang, Malaysia.
Two other crew members of the 28,450 dwt vessel who were also thought to have been exposed to the gas were taken to hospital by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency after it answered a vessel distress call early on 12 July.
It is believed that all five were working in an enclosed space on the ship at the time of the incident, which is being investigated by local authorities.
The 1992-built vessel was en route to India from Bintulu, East Malaysia, and was to call at Pengerang for bunkering.
