Exports from Tokyo port fell in February as 991,464 tonnes of cargo were shipped out, down 12.4% year on year (y/y).
Imports were up 5.2% y/y to 2.565 million tonnes, according to figures released by the Tokyo metropolitan government on 29 May.
The Port of Tokyo saw its cargo traffic rise 1.3% in February from a year earlier to 6.709 million tonnes.
Of the 6.709 million tonnes, 3.557 million tonnes came from foreign trade, down 0.4% from a year earlier, and the remaining 3.152 million tonnes came from domestic trade, up 3.3% y/y.
In February, Tokyo, Japan’s largest container port, handled 318,982 teu of containers in foreign trade, up 3.8% from a year earlier, and 34,129 teu of containers in domestic trade, down 15.6% y/y.
In February, 389 oceangoing ships, including 362 container ships, entered Tokyo, down 1.8% from a year earlier, while 1,635 domestic vessels entered the port, up 7.4% y/y.
