United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) has ordered more reefer containers in line with its strategy to expand its refrigerated container shipping business.
It has ordered 3,500 reefer boxes from Japan’s Daikin Industries, having taken delivery of 2,000 similar containers recently.
The announcement came on the same day that UASC announced a new North Europe-US East Coast (NEU1) service.
The service involves five direct calls at Le Havre, Antwerp, Rotterdam, Southampton, and Bremerhaven and four calls at New York, Norfolk, Charleston, and Savannah.
UASC head of reefer management Gareth Madsen said, “In terms of quality, performance, and reliability, our latest reefer order comprises one of the industry’s most eco-efficient and reliable units. The second phase of new reefer units will support the growth of existing services and enhanced geographic access following new partnership with CMA CGM and Hamburg Süd to enter the North Atlantic trade, linking Northern Europe with the US East Coast.”
UASC president and CEO Jørn Hinge commented, “As an emerging global carrier that places customer service at the very heart of our operations, we are continuously exploring enhanced geographical reach and improved products, while always safeguarding reliability and service excellence. The US East Coast markets provide a significant opportunity for UASC and its customers and these new service offerings mark an important step in UASC’s evolution as well as giving a sense of our longer-term aspirations.”
