Two workers died and seven others were injured when a fire broke out in Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering’s (DSME’s) yard in Okpo, South Korea, on 24 August.
A very large gas carrier (VLGC) under construction at Dock No 2 had burst into flames at 09:45 local time, said DSME.
The flames were extinguished at 15:30 and the bodies of the two dead workers were discovered around 17:00.
The injured workers were sent to hospital and the cause of the fire is being investigated.
IHS Maritime’s Sea-Web.com shows BW Maritime, Dorian LPG, and Shandong Shipping have VLGCs on order at DSME but it is not known which vessel was affected.
